Fresno Denture Profile

An immediate denture is constructed prior to removal of the remaining teeth.  An immediate denture is inserted at the time of the removal of the remaining natural teeth.  The advantage of the immediate denture is that a patient is never without teeth.  An immediate denture is an ideal solution when a patient wants the final aesthetic result to exactly mimic their own original natural teeth.  With the natural teeth as a guide, it is possible to accurately recreate the size and arrangement of the existing natural teeth.

The disadvantage of the immediate denture is that the initial fit is not comparable to the conventional denture that is constructed after the oral tissues have had time to heal from the surgery.  In addition, if a patient wants to alter their original appearance, there is no method of previewing the final result.  The final appearance can only be seen at the time the immediate denture is completed and inserted following the removal of the remaining natural teeth.

Following the removal of the remaining teeth and placement of the immediate denture, the patient will return home.  Cold can be applied to reduce swelling.  The immediate denture remains in place until the following morning when the patient returns to the office for a post-operative visit.  At that time the immediate denture is removed and the extraction sites are checked.  Any necessary denture adjustments are done.  The patient continues to wear the denture at all times only taking the denture out for cleaning.  During the initial phase of healing, warm salt water rinses should be done clean the mouth.
